Two different stoneware clays are used; white and dark brown for high temperature (up to 1320 Centigrade). Porcelain is also used for one-off sculptures. The glazes are mixed from some of the locally found materials such as wood ashes and red clay from nearby Hell’s Mouth beach. The typical Sarn red glaze is achieved with the use of copper oxide. Cobalt, iron, vanadium and chrome oxides are also used for on-glaze decoration.
